An Essay for Many Atheist Friends and Others Who Have Doubts

Having spent several years on social networks I have encountered many Atheists and others who display doubts in any kind of divinity. Too many of them think this world just came into existence without any intelligent planning giving over to Darwinism without even posing an intelligent question of the truth of the theory. Yes, Darwinism is a theory that has never been proven under controlled laboratory conditions.

Oh you may say that the Bible’s explanation of how the world and all that is in it came into being has never been proven under laboratory conditions either to which I can only offer the following explanation. What we know as the Bible was compiled from the writings of at least 66 different men most of whom didn’t know each other over a period of 1500 years most of which has been verified by the Dead Sea Scrolls. No other book in the entire history of mankind has been compiled with that many writings referring to an all knowing, all seeing, omnipotent God as the creator of all. The Qur’an was written by one man and it has parts in it that are in total disagreement.

You may then reply that in Bible time, according to scholars, the earth is only about five thousand years old. Then I would reply with two references from the Bible itself: “Psalms 90:4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” and “Second Peter 3:8 “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” So then consider that the time from Genesis 1:2 to 2:3 could account for seven thousand years.

Then consider also that at least another thousand for Genesis 2:5 “And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.” You say that according to Biblical account man was created back in Genesis 1:26, “Male and female created He them.” Since there are many races on earth, perhaps he made those people at that time. Now consider the next writings. After He rested on the seventh day, bringing us to the eighth day in Genesis 2:5 “And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.” So God created a farmer. Genesis 2:7 “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” I won’t go into Genesis 2:22 where Eve was made from a rib from Adam because I don’t want to get into a DNA argument but a rib is curved like sciences description of DNA.

And I haven’t even taken into account Genesis 1:1 which doesn’t seem to have been even called a day, it could have been millions of years of dinosaurs and other similar beasts and sea creatures being found by geologists. It isn’t even considered in the 8 days of Genesis 1:2 through 2:3.

I have been admonished to “study science and get my mind out of the Bible”. I have studied science. As a matter of fact, I aced scientific classes in both high school and university. Biology, Chemistry and Physics were my favorite subjects. I also scored high in my Bible study classes. I also watch every scientific program I find on Discovery channel and take in every word to see if anything new has been discovered about this universe. Carl Sagan was one of my favorite persons to watch even though he was an Atheist.

All you science believers haven’t considered the times science has been wrong in the last 40 or 50 years. I can’t even begin to count the mistakes science has made. How many things have they claimed causes cancer then changed their minds? Originally, the universe was considered expanding and collapsing and would eventually fall back into itself and now they are saying it is ever expanding. And I’m old enough to remember when the Milky Way was considered the whole universe until Hubble and the Hubble telescope started looking deeper into space.

Now scientists think they can look far enough back into the universe to find the beginning of the Big Bang (or beginning of the universe). My question for science is which way do you look? The universe is a gigantic sphere with no end. We can look at the North Star but which way is it to the beginning of the universe. There are more degrees in a sphere than I care to calculate. The other problem with the Big Bang theory is that most agree that it happened faster than the speed of light so if we’re looking backward at the speed of light the visibility of the Big Bang must have passed us by now.

Let me digress for just a paragraph. Having been a serious Bible student and brought up listening to the opinions of many different people, I had never given any serious thought to where heaven and hell could be located. Everyone points up to heaven and down to hell. I believe the Egyptians thought heaven was a journey either too or past the North Star. As I was watching television one evening, the mention of parallel universes came up. That got me to thinking that maybe heaven, hell and earth are nothing more than parallel universes occupying the same space or close to each other yet invisible to each other. That is just a thought I thought I would throw out for you.

The sad thing is that most people do not really know GOD and think of him as a benevolent old man sitting on a throne somewhere. They are very mistaken. John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.“ God is God, and being God, He can do whatever He wants to whomever He wants, whenever He wants. No reason needed for His actions. 1Corinthians 3:19 “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.  Isaiah 47:10 “For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, none seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me.” Psalms 111:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.”

I full well expect a few negative comments because I have presented a totally religious argument for the Bible and God in the face of the Atheism which seems to be gaining popularity in our highly educated United States but the reason America on the precept of “In God We Trust” was because our forefathers, if you have read any of their writings, believed in Divine Providence. It was their belief that a benevolent creator aided them in establishing a country free from a king who controlled their lives according to his whims. As for religions in our early history, consider that the Capitol building was used by several different religions to hold services in on Sunday. That fact is inconspicuously placed on a wall in the building where most visitors can not readily see it.

Regardless what your religion or opinion of religion is, you do live in a great nation with the freedom to do pretty much as you please as long as it doesn’t cause harm or interfere with another person’s “right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” I would like the militant Atheists to consider leaving Christians alone to practice their religion and also, by all means, leave the American founding fathers belief that Devine Providence gave us this great nation in the face of overwhelming odds against the strongest military nation in the world in 1781, England. It won’t hurt you to just ignore those things you dislike about Christians and America. Christians have been quietly ignoring degradation and persecutions for years. Thank you if you do and bless you if you don’t.

I sit here in my glorious stupidity glad that I’m a Christian, I don’t need to worry about tomorrow, whether the universe is collapsing or even what causes cancer. I know who holds tomorrow and I know who holds my hand.

My How Things Have Changed

By Ray Rogers

When I was a small boy I went to an elementary school in Washington DC and at the beginning of the day we would get started by saying the pledge of allegiance, we would hear a small scripture read over the intercom by one of the students, we would recite the Lords prayer, and then we would sing patriotic songs like 'My Country Tis of Thee'.

Our teachers taught us how great our country is and how our brave forefathers fought for our country so that Americans would know true freedom. Freedom of religion, no more Church of England shoved down our throats. Freedom to own land and freedom from the whims of a belligerent King.

Then someone found fault with our American way of life. They suddenly found us offensive and politically incorrect. So our politicians decided to make decisions that changed the way could talk and behave. Just because it made someone feel uncomfortable.

Our teachers had been very proud of our country and our heritage and they instilled in us a feeling of pride that made us proud to be an American. Now I hear stories of how our children are being taught now that America is evil, that the only reason our nation is so great is because we have stolen what we have from weaker countries. Even past presidential candidate John Kerry said that we were like Genghis Khan torturing and raping in other countries. I personally don't believe anything these politically motivated people say.

So what's my point? Well it's this: today we have more gang violence, gun violence, murder, hate, and division than we've ever had throughout my 53 years of memory. Why is this? Maybe it's because when we were children and pride in our country was being taught to us we felt like we belonged to a great nation, we weren't looking for anywhere to belong, such as a gang. We didn't need gang affiliation because we were proud non-hyphenated Americans.

When our own schools teach us that we should be ashamed of our heritage, that leaves a hole that needs to be filled with something. There is not a child in the world that doesn't want to belong to something great. So if they don't get that need to belong satisfied by God and country they're going to find another way to fill that need and it's not always a good choice.

Teachers should stop telling our kids that our country was wrong for believing in freedom, they're robbing them of the greatest feeling of pride that they'll ever know, the pride of being an American.

I'd like to see the ACLU go to a Muslim country and complain about them praying to Allah in their schools. I think they might lose their head.

There shouldn't be a need to look for something to belong to. We already belong to something great. THE GREATEST NATION THAT EVER WAS. Oh, and how has the way we done it for the last 35 years been working out for us?

I'm 53 years old, I'm an American, I'm proud of my American heritage, and I want my country back for the sake of my grandchildren.
